Without fail it is almost always interesting and unusual in the world of Liz Cox – but here we have a particularly special and unique opportunity, which makes it a very unusual job.
This is the place to enjoy working with beautiful fashion accessories – and the Liz Cox collections of bags is still ‘Made in England’, treasured by loyal customers in this rare world of disposable imports. Our bags travel by road from the Liz Cox workshops a full 12 miles away on the edge of the Somerset levels to the Bath shop – so they’re about as green and ecologically friendly as you can get.
Liz Cox designs have always had an identifiable style as much for the shopping experience as for the bags themselves, so this is a key role in a small friendly organisation which employs a team of around 25 proud and committed people.
The Job in Hand
So, what’s the job? Could you run the Liz Cox shop in Bath?
(Oh, and we might as well say now that we don’t mean can you operate a PDQ machine and keep a stock sheet and fill-out sales reports whilst chatting fashionably to the customers - although that all needs doing for sure)
We mean can you manage a key part of the Liz Cox business?
The young, bright, cheery shoes to be filled are going travelling to India and beyond; we know that everyone has to have an adventure in their lives and we will wave Megan off after a very successful two years in the post managing the Liz Cox business in Bath. She leaves many accomplishments and with everything in pretty good order, but there is a ‘To Do’ list:
The Satisfying Big Picture
- Oversee to completion of the shop refurbishment – new fittings and layout
- Prepare the launch of the new Liz Cox Service scheduled, organise and put it in motion working closely with Liz herself
- Manage the new webmaster, with a rota of product updates and regular newsletters to keep the web sales service up to scratch so as to reflect the merchandise and window display themes in the shop
- Set-out the 2009 mail order campaign, help brief the designers, oversee the printing and distribution in timely waves during the year – oh and the bags being promoted have to be readily available to be made in the Workshop and delivered to the customers when they respond – so there’s some planning to do with the Workshop managers before, during and after
- Work with PR and help keep the press up to date with the latest from Liz Cox
- And there’s more….*
The Daily Grist from the Grindstone
But meanwhile, you’ve got to be able to manage the shop, the rota of part-time staff, run the shop administration working alongside the Head of Finance, keep stock records and stock orders (working alongside the Production Manager) so the shop always looks great, and looking great means powerful window displays – on the usual shoestring budget, of course, where creativity thrives most.
The job as described here is based at the Bath shop but there is management time built into the weekly timetable supported by part-time staff that allows you to do the job necessary.
There is more….
Let’s talk, as it depends on who you are and what experience you have; and what you are aiming to achieve in the next step in your career too!
For example, we have a strong trade customer business which involves making Liz Cox product available to other fashion & shoe boutiques and gift shops in the UK and much farther afield. The job naturally evolves over time to encompass trade work as well, after an appropriate induction period understanding the shop business in Bath.
Rewards and You
These are good but equal to your effort; there are some attractive benefits too, unusually in a small company. There is a comprehensive support programme from other key managers during your start-up period in the job and you’ll be given detailed introduction and training in the modus operandi of the organisation.
If you think you’d like to apply, send us an unusual and interesting cv describing how uniquely suited you are to this very special job. You’ll be a driver with a car available for short journeys (business mileage & xps paid); you’ll be creative and have your own personal style about you; be responsible and very trustworthy; and be pretty darned good and experienced in getting the above in hand and under your control and off your own bat.
